Find your place in Spain

Where to live in Spain? Thinking of moving there, to retire, to work remotely, or to spend the winter? Spain is many countries in one: green and rainy in the north, dry and sunny in the south, quiet inland towns and busy resorts. This site compares all 333 Spanish towns and cities with 25,000 or more inhabitants, in 17 regions plus Ceuta and Melilla, on the things that matter for daily life.

Who it is for

  • People from abroad (the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK, the US and elsewhere) who do not know Spain well yet
  • Retirees and anyone planning a move for the long term, including the climate of the 2050s
  • Anyone who prefers official numbers to glossy “best places” lists

What you can compare

  • Climate today and around 2055: heat, humidity, sunshine, rain
  • Money: home prices, rents, local incomes
  • Healthcare: hospitals nearby and regional waiting times
  • Getting there: airports, year-round flights home, trains
  • Daily life: shops on foot, safety, holiday lets, water, who lives there

How it works

  1. Rank: say what matters to you and every place gets a match score.
  2. Filter: set your must-haves with the sliders.
  3. Compare: tick up to five places and see them side by side, or open a place for its full profile.

Every number comes from an official or open source (the Spanish weather agency AEMET, the statistics institute INE, the ministries of housing, health, interior and environment, OpenStreetMap) and is explained on the sources & method page. Nobody pays to be listed or ranked. This is a comparison tool, not advice.

The tool

Move a slider to say what matters to you and the list gets shorter. Click a column to sort, click a place for the details, or tick up to five places to compare them side by side.

Temperatures are 1991-2020 averages of the daily high and the nightly low (official AEMET weather stations), not record highs or lows. Each slider runs from the lowest to the highest value in Spain. Halfway is the Spanish median (marked), and the shaded band is the middle half of all places.

1. Rank by what matters to you

Say how much each topic matters. Every place gets a match score from 0 to 100: for each topic, 100 means best in Spain and 0 worst, and the topics are averaged with your weights (+ = 1, ++ = 2, +++ = 4). Hover over a score to see a place's strong and weak points.

2. Must-haves (filters)

Climate type (Köppen)

Tick the climate types you like. Davis, California is Csa (hot, dry summers). Combine with "summer mugginess" under More weather to keep summers dry.

* = climate estimate (no weather station close enough). Prices are official appraisals; rents are 2024 contracts.
