Where the foreigners are, and where they aren't

Looking for an expat community, or for a place where you will speak Spanish every day? The population register shows both.

Some people want neighbours who share their language; others want to live among Spaniards. The official population register lets us see both. Among residents aged 65 and over, the median share of foreign nationals across the 333 places is 2.8%; across all ages it is 10.5%.

And where you would be among Spaniards

In 40 places fewer than 1% of the over-65s are foreign nationals, for example Córdoba, Valladolid, León, Jaén, Cádiz, Barakaldo.

The register counts nationality, not origin: foreigners who took Spanish nationality count as Spanish, and it does not say which countries people come from at this level. On the compare page you can filter on the share of foreign residents.
